Review:
Haven't heard of the band or the label before this, so it's all new to me, and even if at first a band name like Blizzard in this day and age would seem a bit awkward, looking at this band's history it doesn't seem that awkward anymore when you see they are around since 1995, when I bet there weren't that many bands under this moniker around, and if they were, internet wasn't all over back then to have every information at a click's distance. Hungarian Blizzard seem to have had a good run until 2006 releasing 4 demo tapes and a debut full-length album, but then disappearing in the shadows until 2021 when here they are attacking the Black Metal scene again with a new album, 8 tracks within 42 minutes of traditional second wave Black Metal with an upgraded, very cool, powerful production that makes it sound even heavier. Their music is at a crossroads between Immortal, Marduk and maybe Dark Funeral, a fierce, visceral, totally wicked and technical Black Metal that impresses through it's vast array of catchy riffs, ultra-sonic drumming and oppressive, upfront bass lines, and all these lead by raspy and sinister shrieks. Uncompromising stuff, it's clear this is made by real devoted maniacs, and quite frankly it's one of the best traditional Black Metal albums I've heard in the past few months, warmly recommended to fans of the above-mentioned bands and not only, this is Black Metal as it was first meant in the '90's, outstanding! I find the cover art and booklet graphics not to be at the same level with the music on this album, but one can't have them all, right?
