Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
DayGlo Mourning (DGM), was formed in the spring of 2017 and was assembled via responses to a craigslist add in the greater Atlanta area. Originally starting as a 4 piece, the band quickly made a decision to continue on as a trio. Shortly after, DGM went into Ledbelly Sound Studio to record three demo tracks. As it turned out, those tracks were eventually released by Black Doomba Records on the split album "Rope Enough For Two" which also featured the band Bludy Gyers. Prior to the album release however, founding member and bassist Matt Rayborn made a decision to leave the band for other pursuits and the current lineup of Ray Miner (drums), Jerimy McNeil (Bass Guitar) and Joe Mills (Lead Guitar) was established. The band then quickly returned to Ledbelly Sound Studio to record the track "Busla's Curse" for Black Doomba Records compilation album "Doombanomicon' and the remaining tracks included in the self titled debut EP "Dayglo Mourning". Following up on those early recordings the band began a flurry of shows and writing to prepare for the upcoming release of "Dead Star", again being produced with Black Doomba Records. The scheduled release for this album is Feb 12, 2021.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
DGM would likely be described as a classic Doom band with a groovy or bluesy, southern metal flavor. The obvious influences Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Sleep, etc. are there for sure, but my love of all things old and blue will eventually end up in there somewhere. In the studio we like to keep it pretty organic without a lot of production (for good or bad). The base tracks are laid down as a live set because in the end we want the album to reflect what you're going to hear when you see us play.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
If you like amp worshiping, huge fuzzy tone, MASSIVE drums, and Sabbath like breakdowns in between thunderous riffs, you're probably going to enjoy DGM and the album "Dead Star" in particular.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Currently we have the releases with Black Doomba Records "Rope Enough For Two" and the single "Busla's Curse" on "Doombanomicon" as well as the self titled EP "DayGlo Mourning" on bandcamp. To be completely honest, the last three years have been a whirlwind and very gratifying to say the least. We truly just focus on writing music that we enjoy playing and hopefully someone else will enjoy as well. The affirmation we've received from the music scene and the commitment and confidence that Black Doomba Records has shown us is indeed extremely satisfying.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We started this band with the sole purpose of playing live shows along side all of the great bands and musicians the Atlanta/Athens music scene has to offer. We count ourselves extremely fortunate to have been able to play so many shows in such a short amount of time and share the stage with so many great folks. Obviously, we're all anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get back at it and see all of our friends again. Apart from that the opportunity to record albums with Black Doomba Records is certainly the icing on the cake.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Apart from our classic influences, there really aren't any bands that we've come across that sound quite like DGM. There are a lot of great Doom/Stoner bands out there to be sure, but we've been able to capture a fairly unique sound out of all the Fuzz somehow.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We're going to enjoy the ride of this next release for sure. We've poured ourselves into it over the past year and now its time to appreciate what we've done for a bit. In particular we're very excited for an upcoming video release of the single "Dead Star" which was filmed and produced by Erik Bigelow of Orange Raven. It was a really fun experience and Erik put together an extremely entertaining video. That being said, hopefully the live venues will reopen sometime next year because at our core this band is about playing live and experiencing all of the great music around us with our friends.
