Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We don't really care about the past ;-) it's important for us to rock the presence. But here are some milestones:
Defaced was founded in 2006, as Trigger Tones. The line-up was the same as today, except on guitar. There we had Marcel Wittwer instead of Marco Kessi. In 2008 we released the first Demo called "Pure fucking straight metal". After this release, Marcel Wittwer left the band and Timon Graber from Art of Phobia joined us. The following years we played some live shows. At the end of 2011, Timon decided to left the band too, in order to get more time for Art of Phobia. During that time the idea of changing the band's name became more and more important to us. We wanted something that matches to what we're doing. And what can be better than doing this during a line-up change? While searching our new name, Marco Kessi joined the band on guitar. And fuck! It was a huge benefit for us! With him, DEFACED was born and we released our debut album "ON THE FRONTLINE" just a few months later. And so that, we're already back in the presence ;-)

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We would describe our style as aggressive Death Metal, with catchy melodies and fine details. This is what we think matches best. The second question is always hard to answer. Every member of DEFACED has its own influences. And these change over time, as you might know. So, every song gets influenced by what we were listening at the time we wrote the song. But there are a few bands out there we listened to a lot, while writing ON THE FRONTLINE. And so and behold, they also appeared in the reviews we've got so far for this album :-) To name a few: Kataklysm, Dying Fetus, Evocation, Amon Amarth and Dissection. But there are also other bands that influenced us. Maybe not our music, but also simply because their AWESOME, they left a lasting impression. And that would be: Hypocrisy, Anaal Nathrakh, Krisiun, Nile, Behemoth and many fuckers from Switzerland like Nihilo, Disparaged, Gurd, Amagortis, Requiem ... The list would be endless :-)

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because Switzerland has more to offer than cheese and chocolate! Haha :-)
No, seriously.. Metalheads who listen to our releases will hear a hungry Death Metal band that convince with quality and a lot of joy! Even on the records you will hear that this band loves what they are doing!

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
As said before, we released the demo "Pure fucking straight metal" (as Trigger Tones) and the full length album "ON THE FRONTLINE". Especially the album got really good feedback so far.
First of all we can do this interview which is awesome:-) (Thanks for all to Gorthaur at this point!) Then we got really good reviews from certain magazines. To name a few:
-Metal1.info 9 out of 10 points
-Powermetal.de 8.5 out of 10 points
-VASKARC.hu 9.5 out of 10 points
-metalimpetus.de 8 out of 10 points
-MEDAZZAROCK.ch 10 out of 10 points
And we could sell almost half of the records we pressed in Switzerland. So we are more than pleased what happened so far!

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Of course we do! And we love it!! One of our goals is to play as many shows as possible! But as you might know, Switzerland is not that big and in the past perhaps we didn't play one show were we didn't saw at least one familiar face in the crowd. That does't mean that the Swiss audience is not a good one! Quite the opposite is the case! Nevertheless, we could play about 40 fantastic shows in Switzerland, with bands like Destruction, Debauchery, Krisiun, Sear Bliss, Rotting Christ, Norther, etc. Ok... To be honest, with most of the bands above we shared the stage at the Headbangersball Silvester Festival, New Year's Eve 2010/2011 :-) But this gig deserves a special mention ;-) But there were also other cool gigs with bands like Prostitute Disfigurement, Disbelief, Internal Suffering, Sniper (R.I.P) and many more.
AND (surreptitious advertising!) on 26 January 2013, DEFACED is allowed to open the Meh-Suff Winterfestival with Asphyx, 1349, Vader, Ragnarok, Aborted and Bonded By Blood! That will be legen... wait for it...dary!!

What sould labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Because every single release will have mojo ;-). No, they should be interested in us because they will get Death Metal, that doesn't reinvent the wheel but convince with a wide musical range across Death Metal. And in this combination, there will be unexpected things to discover!

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
The biggest goal is to grow up as a band. We always wan't to be better than ourselves. Therefore, we are writing material that will kick ON THE FRONTLINE's ass :-) Besides this, we are looking for a label / distributor that helps us spreading the world with our music. And another big goal for 2013, early 2014 is to play shows in other countries. We are heavily interested in meeting other cultures and people. And we can't wait to see their reactions to our sound.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can check out and listen to DEFACED on:
Our releases can be ordered mainly in local Swiss stores like ROCKAWAY BEACH and ZIG ZAG, on our shows or directly via e-mail to info@defaced.ch.
While working on the goals mentioned before, we are also building up the web store on our side www.defaced.ch. But hopefully this won't be used and we will find an interested distributor with more know-how than we have.
Last but not least, DEFACED would like to thank you for this interview and to all the people out there who had the endurance to read the whole interview:-)
You are awesome!
