Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We’re friends from a long time and we already play together in other bands, and in the middle of the pandemic (June/2020) we decided to form a new band to screaming against all the actual political statements in the world, specially in Brazil, where we have the worst government for the past 40 years.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
METALPUNK is a good way to describe our music I think... But old metal and old punk stuff, no the new/modern shit. Our propose is bring back the raw sonority with hard messages, going straight to the point. We wanna mix Discharge, Venom, Anti Cimex, Motörhead and Brazilian bands from the 80’s, like Lobotomia, Anthares and another ones… Punk and metal in its essence, raw, loud and intense.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
We're old dudes bringing back the essence of the raw and heavy music. If you like violent tunes (violent, not only aggressive), full of energy and with high intensity, ESCALPO is your kind of music.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We're a new band. Our first EP was released in Nov 20th/2020 and now we're working hard in the promotion of the 3 songs of this first record. Since November we already received more than 50 quotes in websites / radio and magazines from all over the world. The reception is being amazing!!! Great reviews a lot of good connections and new contacts. Old and new friends from different countries are supporting us.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Unfortunately not in reason of the fucking pandemic. We're very anxious to hit the road and play this songs alive. For now we're practicing, working in new tunes to release our full album later this year and working hard in the promotion of the Retrocedendo EP.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We have been in the underground scene since the late '80s, we saw many bands appear, we have seen the scene grow and become much more bigger than we ever imagined ... but unfortunately we also saw the consolidation of a segment that only copy the that has already been done, in rewriting what has already been written, something like products with different labels. With the ESCALPO we're looking for ways that can bring out our references prioritizing our individualities. We don't intend building something really new, we 're more metalheads than musicians and we're still on the scene because this is our life. Being on the road is our life and our goal with ESCALPO is to dissipate this energy, as I wrote before, bringing back the intense and raw essence of heavy music, violent and loud!!!
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We have a lot of plans on the table, the first steps will release a video for the Retrocedendo track next month, be part of a 4-way split with bands from Germany, Sweden and Mexico and release the EP Retrocedendo in cassette and vinyl 7". Also we're working hard in new tunes for the full length will be released before our first European tour in September (if the pandemic ends).
