Review:
Debut release by this Swiss one-man-band that was planned and apparently started back in 1998 but probably put on ice for lack of drive or something. Anyway, Evangelion is now a trio and this first material is made of only 3 tracks, two of them in Melodic Doom Black Metal fashion and the third sounds like a 70's SciFi movie soundtrack actually, a good outro, but not something to inspire continuity, not even on atmosphere level. The other two tracks are excellent from my point of view, carefully built, with no trace of rush, melodic, expressive, classy I'd say mix of Melodic Doom a la '90's UK scene with traditional second-wave Black Metal (which is also mixed with the current atmospheric type of Black Metal though) and even a Ghost-like choir insert, the confirmation of a well-thought material. The guitar part is the highlight here, very varied, melodic, catchy, but also sinister at some point, an impressive display of ideas that make from this EP a promising material that needs to be followed by a full-length to confirm the first impression on Evangelion.
