Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Weslie Negrón: The band started in 2016 after an idea I had to make different music than what I was playing at that time (Death/Thrash Metal). I wanted to venture a bit more with experimental music and progressive music but with a stoner twist, if that makes sense. I got in contact with Jonathan (Lead Guitar) and he got in contact with Omar and we started jamming a couple of ideas and we clicked fairly quickly. After making about three songs together, the first singer and the first drummer left the band and then Damaris (Vocals) and Danny (Drums) entered the band, completing the current lineup. We released our debut EP “Moths” in 2018, which got a decent amount of attention from the press, we then did a small run of shows around the Stateside North-East in 2019 which also got a really good reception from the audience as well. In June of this year our track “Adhara & Ray” was part of the “Stimulus Mixtape” of Adult Swim, which was pretty cool.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Omar González: Something I enjoy from playing with these guys is that we all come from different music backgrounds and it’s always interesting working on new music because of all our influences. Progressive music is at the centerpiece of everything that we do, classic bands like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Rush have influenced us all. Modern bands like Mastodon, The Ocean, Baroness and Pallbearer are other groups that we look up to.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
WN: Though we do play heavy stuff, I’m not really sure if every metalhead would actually buy any of our records. I can say that if you’re looking for something more into the experimental side of Metal, trying to blend different stuff, our music may work for you. If it doesn’t, it’s fine. But I think our music approaches to the fans of bands that are willing to be more experimental with their sounds.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
WN: We have our self-titled EP that came out in 2018 and was received gracefully by the press. Sites like Bandcamp and Heavy Blog is Heavy! wrote and published great reviews for the EP, which was very exciting for us.
OG: I’d say that response from local fans was positive as well, mostly because there aren’t that many local metal bands who play this style in particular so it feels like something fresh whenever a band like this appears. These past few months a lot of bands from the Island have released great music and it makes me happy that different media outlets have taken notice.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
OG: Due to everything’s that’s been going on in the world right now, we haven’t played live for quite some time now. Last year was very productive for us, we were pretty active throughout the entire year playing in different venues in Puerto Rico. We also had the opportunity to play for the first time outside of the Island. We did a couple of shows throughout the northeast of the States, it was a great experience. Definitely something we’re looking forward to repeating in the future.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
WN: I’m not sure if mentioning specific names of labels, zines, or promoters would be something I would like to do since it really depends of the scenario and what works best for both parties, but I can say that maybe they can hear and/or understand that our music is genuine music, we really sit down to compose and perform our songs as best as possible and we take care of even the most minimal detail. If they’re into that, then we can prove that the “music industry” work that needs to be done in order to complete the partnership, will be in fact be done and exceed expectations.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
OG: We decided to take this moment that we’re not doing live shows and decided to record new music. In August 21st we’ll be releasing a split EP with Philadelphia’s The Stone Eye, good friends of ours and one of the bands that we played with on our U.S shows. Right now, we are also in the final steps of recording music for our first full-length album, which we’re planning on releasing sometime next year.
