Review:
After being released on tape and digital in 2020, this new Pathogen EP gets the CD treatment this year from a joint venture between Bestial Invasion Records and the now legendary Polish zine Necroscope, part of this print-run being distributed for free with the latest edition (36th!) of Necroscope.
If you know the band, you know exactly what to expect from Pathogen, but if you haven't met their music yet, you should know they are delivering an uncompromising, old-school, unpretentious, Death Metal with a fine balance between speed and brutality, with prominent groovy edges throughout. What I don't like about it is the fact two of the tracks have a pretty good sound, and the rest, recorded somewhere else, sound thinner, far less powerful, which creates a certain discomfort. This new version of Ravages of the Tyrant features beside the 5 already released tracks two new, never released before. Pathogen are a good band of the Philippine scene, an exponential export of their Death Metal scene for sure, they have plenty of releases out (although the new album is quite overdue by now, already 4 years in the making), so you won't have problems getting ahold of something signed by them, but I'd warmly recommend you order the new Necroscope zine issue to get this EP together with it and at the same time supporting one of the oldest still active Underground Metal zines in Europe.
