Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band was born in late 2002 when Phoneutria (previously death metal band in which Damy played) was disband; Damy started to write some own material with Pedro (former HELLCIRCLE) then choosing the moniker PULVIS ET UMBRA - which means "Dust And Shadow" in latin - from a school dictionary. Once both guys found drummer, bass player and singer the band rehears for play few live shows during 2004/2005; at the time Damy met Marcello (drums, HADDAH) and Bado (former bass player from HUMAN SHIELD) then asked them for a studio recording cooperation which brought the band to release their first EP in 2006 titled "Quid Valet Hic Mundus, Quid Gloria, Quidve Triumphus Post Miserum Fonus ... Pulvis Et Umbra Sumus". Less then one year later the band recorded their second EP titled "Pure Longobard Noize" with a new line up that splitted up in 2010 due to personal / working reasons of some band members. Both Damy and Cello recruited Stefano (old band friend) as a new singer plus a new bass player who also helped the band in record their first full lenght "Reaching The End". The album - originally release via Rising Records during 2012 - it's actually distribuited by ABWESEND Records and received an exclusive GSA release in april 2013 in cooperation with german promoter Gordeon Music.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Well, being an open minded musician it's hard to describe PULVIS ET UMBRA style because our songs could feature influences from 80's thrash metal, death metal, black metal, hardcore; that's maybe explains how different audience liked our music (our first EP sounded quite rock/acoustic due that at the time I was really tripped by bands like Anathema and Opeth). There are a lot of metal/not metal artists or bands who influenced us in writing music ... both me plus former members are open mind music listening but - speaking for myself - I can say that I picked up guitar when I heard "Ride The Lightning" from METALLICA then moved to some more exteme and experimental directions :)

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because our currently distro propose offer due that if someone buy our release (or another item sell by ABWESEND) they'll receive a 2nd CD of another band from our distro for free incl.a gift; they decided to start this proposal due to entice people in buy CD to support underground music instead of download digital stuff.

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We release two EPs ("Quid Valet Hic Mundus, Quid Gloria, Quidve Triumphus Post Miserum Fonus ... Pulvis Et Umbra Sumus" in 2006 and "Pure Longobard Noize" in 2007), a promo CD ("Promo 2010") and a full lenght ("Reaching The End" - 2012). At the moment I'm finishing to record drums for the new album "Implosion Of Pain" which will be release in 2014.
Our first EP was review only by few italian press plus a danish reviewer, both our second EP / promo 2010 were sold during live shows and our debut album is getting some good review from Italian, German and US press. (all available in english on our FB page - www.facebook.com/PulvisEtUmbraofficial) The opening track of our debut album was feat. in IMPERATIVE MUSIC compilation and we've been feat. As metal artist of the month in LOUD N LOADED promotion october newsletter

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
It should be better to say "we did" (hehehe) due that I'm currently the last stand band member, but it would be great to find session player due to book some shows for promote the new release, who knows? :D Our mainly live activity was surely date from 2008 to 2010 (we played lot of shows in northern italy plus a couple of mini tours in Slovakia + Austria and in 2010 we played in a metal fest in southern Switzerland; we got chance to play with bands like BLOOD TSUNAMI, Septycal Gorge, Suburban Terrorist, Cadaveric Crematorium, Bleed In Vain, Imago Mortis plus more ones beside cooperate in book italian shows for ILLDISPOSED and CRUCIFIED BARBARA in 2009)

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We're lucky to got chance to start working with guys from ABWESEND Staff. They're all former musicians and contact clubs proposing bands of own roster; the cool thing about them is that we know personally the guys (instead of lots of label/scam or people who got conversation only by email) and they started this activity as a hobby asking no remarks for their support. They all got a main job cause both me/them perfectly know that it's hard to make music the only money business in life ...mush respect to these people.
The only thing I can say to labels / promoters regarding Your question is "please check out Your mail / poste box, give us any kind of answer don't costs a thing"; we send out 30/40 CD packaging plus 40/50 or more mails receiving only 3 feedbacks lol xD
I'd like instead to thank all the 'zines who reviewed our music, support us publishing our news or gave us the chance to publish an interview as You made (neverending thanks bros & sis!! hornz up to You \m/ :D)

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Finish the recording of the new album and steal some money to make a release party inviting all the people (listeners, reporters, reviewers, friends) who supported us during these years and also the ones who'll discovery our music later. (damn, that party will surely needs lots of money and alchool hahahaha)

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to our stuff on both FB / RN pages (www.facebook.com/PulvisEtUmbrametal - www.reverbnation.com/pulvisetumbra)
People interested in buy our CD can write an email to band's official address (pulvisetumbraofficial@gmail.com) but we advise to contact directly our distro at abwesendmanagement@europe.com so they'll be sure to add the free CD + gift in Your order :-)
