Review:
What would happen if Chris Barnes & Co. (SFU, obviously) would start playing Swedish Death Metal in the peak of their potential and move to Finland? Well, Spiritual Holocaust! We're dealing here with a Finnish band playing the kind of fat sounding, unapologetic, catchy Swedish Death Metal with the obvious melodic guitar leads that are simply delicious, and a versatile vocalist that would make Chris Barnes dream about his youth. The second album by this quintet follows 3 years after their debut and delivers 9 tracks in a bit over 40 minutes of playing time, an oppressive, fast paced Death Metal that's perfect for both live shows and listening at home, very catchy, memorable at times (check out the excellent Serpents for Saints), and lead by a voluminous sounding vocalist, think of a heavier (read more oppressive, or more brutal) version of Dismember but with more brutality and less passages where the listener is allowed to breathe, and at the same time with the same level of catchiness in its guitarwork. Spiritual Holocaust have produced a tasty second full-length album, fans of above mentioned sonorities should definitely check this album out!
