Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
First of all, greetings from Peru Adrian, and thanks for giving us the opportunity of being part of Pest Webzine.
Well, the band was formed back in 1999 by the guitar players Willy "Stygia” and Leo Rojas, with the idea of playing Old School Death Metal, and it wasn’t until 2002 that they found a full time drummer, and I (Darkest) joined the band as the vocalist in December 2003. At that time the problem was having a stable bass player until 2007 that the former bass player joined the band again after surpassing some personal problems he had.
Nowadays the band is formed by Edgar Campos (drummer) who also plays with Bestial Possession, Leo Rojas (guitars) who is also guitarist of Depraved, Dyko Mejia (bass), Arturo Castro (guitars) and Darkest (vocals).

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We describe our music as Old School Death Metal, even when you could find some brutal parts there, and I think that is one of the most interesting things our music has. Stygia is not a monotone Death Metal band, there you can listen to different things, it isn’t blast beat drums all the time, or just regular riffs the entire song, and that is why we enjoy doing what we do. But as we always said, we prefer the listener to catalogue us, because at the end of the day, it is him the one who is going to tell what a band sound like or not.
Basically our influences are bands such as Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Absu, Death, Sinister, and more.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
I don’t want to sound like humble, but I think they should listen to us first and it is up to him or her if he/she wants to buy it. But there is one thing that I can ensure them; they are not going to find gay melodic shit, that is for sure. In case people who are reading this interview haven’t listened to us so far, you can find a sample of our CD on our web www.stygia.tk

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We have only released two productions, an EP with 3 tracks in 2007 and our debut CD last year.
Our EP had good response by the media and public. We appeared in a couple of Compilation CDs from different places when we just released it and it was reviewed in countries such as Israel, Holland, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, among others. "Anthems…”, our debut, has had good critics by part of the media as well, but unfortunately the record label which released hasn’t worked so hard in order to promote it so the reviews it got was due to the fact I started sending it, either as Mp3s or CDs, to different websites and zines. "Anthems…” has been well received by the public here in Peru, even we are part of two electronic compilations (www.emerging1.tk and www.beyondthemasks.tk), but unfortunately we don’t know how good it was abroad, because the label was in charge of it. We hope things get better with the next productions we release.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We do play live. We are a very energetic band on stage. I have always thought that a band that plays such an extreme style shouldn’t be so static alive, as if they were just like manikins, that is for ballads singers and so, not for Death or Black Metal.
About our activity, we have been invited to play in a couple of cities in the south of the country in July, and we are going to play with Abaddon Incarnate from Ireland here in Trujillo, the city we are from, on 26th August.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
First of all, that we aren’t just kids who want to try what playing Death Metal is, this is no fashion for us, it is something we love to do, we are living big part of our dream when playing on stage, rehearse or record. On the other hand, Stygia doesn’t play pretty tracks, we don’t like to be pleasant, our music isn’t aimed to it, we play Old School Death Metal, and that is what all people are going to find there.
And about the second question, well, let them listen to what we play and they’ll make the decision of being interested or not. It is as simple as that. I don’t want to sound rude, but in the end, that is the truth. I could say many things, actions speak louder than words, although in this case it would be, music speaks louder than text, hehehe…

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We are working on the new tracks because we have the decision of recording a new EP in the following months, look for another record label who would like to release our next production, and play live, of course.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
As I said some lines above, you can listen to a sample of our entire CD on our site which is www.stygia.tk or on our myspace www.myspace.com/stygia.
