Review:
After a furious debut album on Iron Bonehead, Portuguese Summon decide to continue with Polish Godz ov War, and this new EP might be the beginning of a "beautiful friendship". 3 new tracks clocking 20 minutes of playing time, Helios continues the band's tradition of blending murky, cavernous, oppressive Black Death Metal with the darkest form of Doom Death, both in style and in rhythms. The atmosphere and feelings it generates are totally hellish, ferocious, incredibly dense and menaceous, and probably that's the band's best asset, but in terms of composition I feel they are missing something to stand out; during the repeated auditions I kept a feeling that I've already heard this multiple times before and that nothing sticks to my mind afterwards, it doesn't feel like the band is ready to conquer higher grounds in their genre, but maybe this will change since they've become a quintet nowadays, so more minds to brainstorm and more influences to throw in. Anyway, the new EP is good for the brutality and atmosphere it delivers, but just like their previous works, I doubt it will have an impact on the scene.
