Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Jardén Schlesinger (guitars, Vox), Pelle Buch Hansen (Drums) and former bassist Rasmus Kaibe founded the band in 2009. At this point Sylvatica was mostly folk metal influenced and the first single “Mjølner og Mjød” was recorded. After this recording guitarist Jannik Ravn joined and the bassist Thomas Haxen replaced Rasmus Kaibe. The first EP “Sagn og Sagaer” was recorded with this line-up. Luckily the recognized Danish folk metal band Svartsot listened to this EP and decided to take us with them on a long line of supporting gigs. Several concerts with bands such as Huldre, Vanir and Heidra were also played at this point.
In 2011 Jannik Ravn left the band and the trio Jardén, Pelle and Thomas recorded the second EP “Mosemanden”. Now guitarist Martin Frost Hamann joined the band and recorded the single “Blodrøde Blade” with us in 2012. Shortly after this guitarist Richardt Olsen replaced Martin Hamann.
Sylvatica had now become more inspired by the melodic death metal genre and Finnish bands such as Wintersun, Ensiferum and Kalmah. The songwriting for a full-length album was almost done and this time we decided to use the JBO Sound studio for a more pro-sounding recording. The year 2013 arrived and we went for it! Our debut album “Evil Seeds” was now recorded together with producer Jacob Olsen. It contains 57 minutes of Danish melodic metal and we believe it has turned out perfectly. We hope you will think the same.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We have been called a melodic death metal band with folk influences and I think it is a pretty precise description. We are also drawing inspiration from black metal, power metal and many other genres that we listen to and enjoy. We like to play what we think sounds cool instead of sticking to one particular genre.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
If you’re into epic, melodic, heavy, northern metal then you should consider buying our new CD Evil Seeds, Because it is high quality recordings of some of the finest melodic metal you’ll come across here in Denmark.

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Mjölner og Mjöd – Single
Sagn og Sagaer – EP
Mosemanden – EP
Blodrøde Blade – Single
Evil Seeds – Full Length
Mosemanden + Sagn og Sagaer received a lot of positive feedback when they were released. We got many positive reviews but also a few negative ones. The problem with those two EP’s was that they were released back then when we were very young and not as skilled, motivated and serious as we are today. Our opportunities for making good studio recording weren’t that good back then either. We have really stepped up this time with Evil Seeds and made a top quality and professional product and so far the reviews have only been positive. We have almost only received 9/10 and 8/10 reviews so far, so we are very pleased.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Yes we do. We have played around 40 concerts here in Denmark so far. Now we are really longing to play some gigs abroad.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We are a very stable band consisting of highly experienced and skilled musicians. Our music is thought through, well recorded and nothing is left to chance.

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We plan to play a lot of concerts and sell some copies of our new album. Hopefully we’ll be able to arrange some shows outside Denmark and maybe sign with a label if a good deal comes up. Apart from that we have started the songwriting for the second album.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The album is streaming on Spotify and Youtube. The digital version of the CD can be bought on both Amazon and itunes and the physical version can be bought on our Web shop. Here is a link to the physical CD: http://www.gatewaymusic.dk/album/21432
