Review:
Seven years after their foundation, VCID finally manage to release their debut studio album, after "testing" the audience with a couple of EPs before. Jettatura is a 35 minutes opus featuring 6 tracks of simplistic, headbanging-friendly, mostly engaging Black'n'Roll, or better said a combination of Black Metal and Punk Rock, mostly mid-tempo played, with occasional fast paced inserts. The material is quite catchy and energetic, but it tends to loose focus at times and becomes somehow monotonous without too much to surprise the listener. The production is impressively clear, Satyricon would be envious on it, but I'm not sure this is the right approach for Black'n'Roll, bringing together terms like Black Metal and Punk automatically makes you think of dirty, evil, uncompromising and raw production yet VCID chose to follow a different path. From my point of view the band's decision to go mostly mid-paced wasn't that inspired, but there are some parts where they go berzerk (fast and extremely furious) and those are really, really good; I'd like more of those parts from VCID, more aggression and more speed. Also bringing into their music some more Punk and even Post Black Metal elements would only do them good, there are some hints of those on Jettatura, too, so that wouldn't be a surprise. Bottom line Jettatura is a promising debut, let's see what the future brings for this Nantes based quintet.
