Review:
Alkimista is the one-man-project of multi-instrumentalist Pedro Serpa, and what we have here is its debut album, a 5 tracks effort clocking a bit over 40 minutes of playing time. Pedro describes its music simply as Metal, but nowadays I guess you need a more niched classification in order to get some attention, or I may be wrong and such a wide labelling of your music might get you some more "ears". The fact is Alkimista's music on this album is a variation of Melodic Doom Death Metal, or better says multiple variations of it; at times we're getting a traditional Doom sound, at others the music becomes more aggressive, even Heavy Metal influenced here and there, but most of the times it's based on melodic guitar leads (like in Paradise Lost case) and the vocals are semi-growls, Alkimista's major link with Death Metal. The atmosphere is pretty serene despite the vocals, and it seems Pedro is open and willing to take in any kind of influences that might spice things up. A good debut, but since it was composed between 2003 and 2006 I'm not sure what will be the continuation (if any) almost 15 years after...
