Review:
Fourth album from this Spanish band started in 2005, The Fall is not actually a Groove Metal album as I labeled it above, but that was the closest I could think of. Actually Morphium's music is a mix of seriously melodic passages, totally inciting and exciting grooves, memorable structures and modern compositions, just throw in some Groove Metal, Melodic Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, some Core and even Power Metal, all with a great accessible edge that would easily have made them radio and TV friendly if they were based on another continent namely North America. Taken one by one most of the tracks on this album are hit material I could see kids (and not only) enjoying to bits if their exposure would be at mainstream level. Yes, there are plenty of growling vocals that could disturb the majority, but they are fine balanced with the melodic and very, very good main clean vocals, and the same goes for the guitar riffs that deliver both brutal / technical passages as well as a lot of memorable hooks, and the combination with a ton of interesting leads and solos (here's where the Power Metal influence kicks in) makes it a delicious material to say the least. I'm impressed by Morphium's work here although I'm not usually consuming this genre, so of course I recommend it to you, too. Great band, great album!
