Review:
To tell you the truth I haven't had the chance to listen to a lot of new Power Metal this year so I don't know how healthy this scene still is (remember the change of the century's Power Metal boom?), but I tell you we've got a proud flag bearer right here, the Greek Emerald Sun, a Thessaloniki six-piece founded back in 1998, that reached with Under the Curse of Silence their fifth album milestone. This experience is obvious when you start listening to this album, it is so well curdled and at the same time so diverse that only experienced musicians could come up with something like this. I'd compare this material to a clash between Hammerfall, Helloween, Manowar and even Gamma Ray, offering something for everyone, from fast, headbanding songs to anthem-like, up-lifting tracks to raise your fists in the air, to melodic compositions leaving space to long, intricate, catchy guitar solos and leads (twin guitars on multiple layers), and even a ballad song to top things up. The lyrical section is as well very varied, complementing the music, and the production is absolutely faultless, so all in all we've got a winner here, a band that will make your dey if you're into Power Metal, I have no doubt about it. Almost perfect! If you decide to give it a chance please listen it start to finish, it will give you a better perspective, just chosing a track out of the 12 featured here (actually 11, but one has both English and Spanish sung versions) won't it any justice.
