Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The Helioss history is quite simple. I am a metal musician for years and I decided to create a new project, with just a few musicians involved, and to write some brutal epic songs. I wanted to do anything, because I wanted to control every step of this project. But I cannot do the whole thing by myself: I cannot sing well. So I contacted Pierre, who was a singer in another French band, Dividead (thrash metal) and he accepted to join me in this project. I was finishing, at this point, to write the first Helioss songs, so we completed the 6 tracks EP and start to recorded it at home. Pierre is living far from me so he recorded all the singing part and sent them to me. I did the mix with a friend of mine, Romain, and asked some other friends for the mastering and the visual part. I was involved in all step of the project, so Helioss is really my project, even if a few other people helped me to complete it (especially Pierre, of course!)

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
There is indeed a black metal influence in Helioss music. I’m listening a lot of different music, like of course metal (extreme metal, but heavy metal too, hard rock, shred…) and classical music, especially baroque era (Bach, Scarlatti, Rameau, Vivaldi…). My Black metal influences are mostly band like Mirrorthrone, Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and Anorexia Nervosa, but i like neo-classical bands too, such as Kenziner, Zonata, Adagio…so I tried to mix all my influences to create something I would like to listen !

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
I tried to create something unique – even it is totally impossible to do so – and to have my own universe. So curious metalhead may enjoy discovering something different, mixing both classical and metal music, with the extreme vocals of Pierre. I guess a lot of people won’t appreciate this music, but hey…I don’t need to be appreciated by everyone!

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Our first EP is really new. I am actually sending some copies around at this time, so I haven’t a lot of reaction at this point. But people who listened Helioss’s stuff were impressed by what they heard.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
As you may have noticed, Helioss has only 2 members: me (playing all the guitars and bass) and Pierre (vocals). It’s clearly impossible to play live in these conditions! But Helioss has been created at the start with the will to not play live. I’m not looking for touring or dates, because Helioss has not been made for this. Helioss is only a studio project, with only one goal: record the best songs as possible. That’s why you will probably never see Helioss live. I don’t really enjoy the live experience, even when I’m in the crowd: I prefer listening music home, this are for me the best condition for.

What sould labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
There is nothing special to know about us, except what I told sooner – we don’t play live. We are from France, and we would be proud if people from other countries were listening and enjoying Helioss !

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
I’m already writing the next album. I don’t know how and when it will be released, and maybe music will change a little bit, but Helioss is still discovering his own identity. Be sure you will hear about me sooner! But one thing that is almost sure, I won’t be looking for drummer or keyboardist, because I like to do all that I can by myself. I don’t want to much people to be involved in this project…time will tell!
