Review:
Infernal Thorns is (or at least it was on this album) a one man project of Andres Arancibia known from his other band, Thornafire, and it was established back in 2003, so one can only imagine how much passion and work (and even hopes, why not?) Andres put into this debut album and so far only official release. Probably the tracks were composed during all these years, arranged and rearranged, changed and corrected countless times, the recorded between 2014 and 2016 and finally self-released in 2017, which might have been the best decision in this case, relying on a label would have been disappointing for Andres in the end for some reason or another. So, getting back to the compositions, working almost 15 years on 9 tracks (around half an hour of playing time) is something to think about, I guess the man put all his soul in this album, and to be honest it really shows that it's a well-thought, well-structured and well-performed album to the tiniest detail. Fast paced Death Metal with lots of various rhythms, patterns, complex and atmospheric at the same time, blasphemy-filled, technical, meaningful and traditional sounding without falling into the "raw and unpolished production" trap, this has actually an excellent production (apart for some times where the drums sound synthetic). Bottom line Infernal Thorns has produced an excellent album for fans of Traditional Death / Black Death Metal, brutal, oppressive and somber as it should be.
