Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.Ad Patres was founded late 2008, the most famous member is drummer Alsvid (Seth, Enthroned, Code...), the meeting point being our love for 90s death metal.
A first demo "Promo 2010” was self released in 2010 and made big impression to the fans and the press and led AD PATRES to win the contest and open at Hellfest Open Air in 2011.
Quickly after that began the work on the first album "Scorn Aesthetics” which was released by Kaotoxin Records in september 2012 and also had a great reception with rave reviews and was chosen among the best 2012 releases by VS-Webzine readers (french leading extreme metal webzine).
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We play death metal! The band stemed from a common passion for this music from all members. We all love the death metal scene from the nineties when music had to be direct and intense more than anything else. When you listen to "Breeding the spawn” or "Domination” you can feel that it comes from the guys’ guts as much as their technical skills. That’s what we are trying to do here.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
For the same reasons he or she sould buy any other record, let’s be honest, we’ll never make millions of Euros (sigh...) We already are lucky to have released an album and to be able to play it on stage, but the support from metalheads around the world is really important to us, not actually financially speaking (although it will help us make another album more easily I admit) but it helps keep the spirits high when you get an order from the other side of earth and you think " WOW! Some guy in Thailand liked our music so much he ordered a CD and a Shirt!!!” (Chukiat if you read this you made my week brighter!!). I admit sometimes it gives me a bit of an erection...
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?So far we have released a promo CD in the end of 2010 containing three songs, a split-tape with the excellent "Writhing” from the US which contained the same three songs a few months later and our first LP "Scorn Aesthetics” which was released in september 2012. So far we had very good feedback, both from the public and media, the album being voted #3 by the readers in the top french metal releases of 2012 on VS-Webzine, the biggest extreme webzine in France. The most frequent criticism we have is "It’s not original”, well it’s not meant to be! We just want to play the music we like the way we like it, we’re not going to play songs with (enter unlikely music style here) in it just because it’s never been done before.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We do play live. So far we were lucky enough to play some great gigs with some no less great bands and we hope to keep it up. We started our live "carreer” with the huge opportunity to open at Hellfest Open Air for 4000+ metalheads in the crowd, that was crazy, and we recently played in Paris with Aborted for the tenth anniversary of their album "Goremaggedon” and it was amazing! People seem to really enjoy seeing us live and it makes us even more enthusiasthic to play.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Well, there are a few things that would be likely to mean something for labels or/and promoters such as the fact that we played Hellfest 2011 in France without an album out, that Scorn Aesthetics was voted by quite some webzines one of the bests albums of 2012 and stuff like that. But actually I’d rather them to check the album, see us live (or see the videos if that’s not possible but it’s not quite the same...) and just make their own opinion.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?So far, we don’t have much of a plan, we have a couple of gigs planned for this summer and autumn , Scorn aesthetics was released only a few month ago so we try and promote it as much as we can. We started working on new material we don’t pressure ourselves about it. So mostly, as a band the near future will be rehearsals, gigs to promote "Scorn Aesthetics”, and a few beers outside when the sun shines.
