Review:
In the ancient Persian religion Zoroastrianism Druj is a female demon representing the principle of wickedness, so this US based trio picked up an expressive name for their band, especially since their lyrics are pointed towards the same territory of mythology and ancient cults and religions. This is the band's debut album, a 6 tracks effort clocking 45 minutes of playing time, offering a slow to mid-tempo Doom Death Metal extremely heavy and oppressive, low-tuned and obscure without any hint or trace of light or shiny melody in it, a totally underground and hideous form of musical soundscapes. Deep growls (they could have added the lyrics in the CD booklet, as the vocals are totally incomprehensive preventing the listener to get into the overall atmosphere) mixed with slow Death guitar riffs, upfront heavy bass lines and quite complex drumming with many (much more than expected) rhythm breaks and changes, blending old-school (slow) Death Metal sonorities with newer kind of Doom Death structures, that's what we get from Druj's debut album, an interesting debut, but strictly aimed to fanatics of the genre, others will be bored by it.
