Review:
Initially released by Dinner for Wolves in 2018 in Australia, Horizons Edge's third full-length album was then picked up and re-released this year by Fastball Music for a wider exposure for the band, and actually that's how I found out about them, this being my first encounter with their music although they've been active since 2012. Female fronted Horizons Edge offer us here 12 tracks clocking an hour of traditional Power Metal with occasional Progressive and Epic Metal influences. The instrumental part was produced by Firewind's Bob Katsionis, and the vocal part by Primal Fear's Ralf Scheepers who is also guest on a track, but to be honest to me it seems like the production is a bit rough around the edges, I have no problem with that as I'm used to this sound, but traditional fans of Power Metal might want something more polished than this. Anyway, there's plenty to enjoy on this album, the guitars are all over the place, it's a blessing to witness their journey throughout the album, but unfortunately there's not much to stick to your mind after the audition, even Kat Sproule's vocals are damn powerful and commanding (not soft and melodic as most might assume), but not enough to stand out and keep things interesting for a full hour. Speaking for me the title track and the cover of '80's hit Holding Out for a Hero (Bonnie Tyler) were the highlights of this album, but if you're into Power Metal give this album a try, you might find something on your taste.
