Review:
Austrian quintet Infected Chaos return with their third full-length album, first album of their independently produced.
Primarily a Death Metal record, Dead Aesthetics welcomes influences and elements from a lot of different areas, from Thrash to Grind, to Punk and Hardcore, to Melodeath, and even a hint of Black Metal at times, this without impacting the overall Death Metal labelling of what Infected Chaos are doing here, modern, brutal and melodic Death Metal that is. The 11 tracks featured here (50 min. in length) are highlighted by a very upfront, low-tuned, overall impacting bass line, a vocal compartment alternating between low, guttural and screaming vocals, groovy drumming and headbanging riffing completed by what is my fave element in Infected Chaos' music, melodic at times / demented at other guitar leads and solos that make the tracks more distinguishable. The Grindcore touch is obvious here and there and that's understandable because the two band guitarists Martin and Matt, the later also being responsible of the mix on this album, are also part of a Grind band, Bitchfork, but I have to admit this influence is not near genre impacting in Infected Chaos' music, it's just a touch to spice things up. There's a good diversity between tracks, one can easily pinpoint each of them by a certain something, which is excellent in my opinion, although the overall impression is of a fast paced, brutal music. Not groundbreaking, but definitely a good effort indeed, an album that grows on you and leaves at least some memorable parts after the audition. An album that comes as jewel-case CD with 12 pages booklet that unfolds in a little poster of the cover artwork, artwork I have to admit I'm not a fan of, way too dark and unnoticeable, not adding value to the product in my opinion.
