Ok, this was a surprise for me as Godz ov War isn't exactly known for their affinity to Doom Death or other melodic-infused styles of Metal. US based Rotting Kingdom release their debut album 3 years after they tested the waters with a self-titled 3 tracks EP. 6 tracks in almost 40 minutes of playing time offering a rough old-school Doom Death Metal highlighted by a very guttural, almost Funeral Doom-like (or at times even Gore Grind type) vocal that might just be (one of) the reason of this union between the band and the Polish label. Occasionally there are some clean vocals inserts, but most of the time the guy uses some of the most low-tuned, abrasive, visceral growls you'll hear in Doom Death, but they go well in contrast with the slightly melodic song structures this band offers. Mostly slow paced to mid-tempo rhythmed Rotting Kingdom's music is based on quite simple guitar riffing flavored with some catchy leads, intense drumming and quite upfront, fat sounding bass lines, but I find the real strength of the band to be in their song-writing; the compositions are diverse and even turn surprising here and there where one wouldn't expect Pyogenesis-like passages, or Dungeon-synth intermezzos, or some fast-paced, furious old-school Death Metal riffing to rip your head off. A good debut, an interesting new name on the '90's type Doom Death Metal scene.
