Review:
Young band from Poland presenting their debut album, a 7 tracks effort totaling 35 minutes of playing time. Situated at the border between slow and mid-tempo rhythms, with occasional fast paced passages, Profeci's compositions have a tough time avoiding boredom, and at times they fail unfortunately. The most variation is in thje vocals compartment, where the vocalists tone ranges from raspy, angry shouting vocals to Batushka-like somber clean vocal tone sounding like recorded in a church, but without the Orthodox influence, of course, so don't mistake this for a copy. Anyway, exactly this clean vocal tone could be Profeci's trademark, but in my opinion the rhythms they used on this album, the song-writing, the lack of anything surprising is preventing it to stand out from the crowd. It's a nice-flowing material, some passages are interesting and there are a few hooks here and there that might stick to the listener's mind after the audition, so giving the band a chance won't do any harm, you might enjoy it better. The lyrics and in Polish, so if you are a Polish language speaker they might enhance the experience as the vocal part is quite easy to follow and comprehend. The cover art is interesting, at first I thought it's a lion's open mouth, then a human face, then a mountain with clouds in the background, then I didn't know what else to think, so I guess that's a good sign.
