Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Infrared began in 1985 when four young metalheads started a band as they wanted to be like their heroes. Armin, Kirk, Al, and Shawn began writing original songs right away and recorded a few rough demos and released a music video for Thoughts Caught on the Canadian Music Station Much Music. Infrared opened for many bands coming through Ottawa. Infrared fizzled away as band members were at the age where they were going to College and starting careers. Fast forward to 2014, Infrared reformed as they wanted to record the old songs which were only found on cassette tapes. Infrared recorded some of the songs and released the album No Peace in 2016. Infrared are now releasing a second album entitled Saviours.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Infrared is 80’s Thrash Metal. The big four influenced us as well as the classic metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because we have been told many times, people who love classic thrash metal will like what we have to offer.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
No Peace, our first album, was received very well and we have had only positive feedback. Many people have told us they miss 80s metal and are happy we are playing that style.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Yes, Infrared are definitely a live band. We have been playing in our hometown opening up for heroes of ours from the 80s such as Sacrifice, DBC, Dirkschneider, and Anvil to name a few.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Infrared play the 80’s style of metal,which a lot of bands do not play these days. We are not trying to reinvent the music we love, but continue it. Infrared are interested in music as fans of metal first. We make the music because we love metal.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Infrared aim to get a chance to play live shows outside of Canada, we dream of one day going to Europe and South America to play for the best metal crowds on earth….where metal rules!
