Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Eira was formed in July of 2011 by Tom Gerwitz and Tom Jurkovic after Tom's Blackened Death Metal band Mephistoph went on hiatus. Shortly after bassist Derek Schultz was added and we began writing for our EP "A Death Painted Portrait” In January of 2012 we entered Shredly Studios to record ADPP, which was released on February 19th 2012. Eira played several shows over the summer and then took a break from shows to continue writing their first full length. In January 2013 we parted ways with drummer Tom Jurkovic due to musical differences. We plan to begin recording the full length in the fall of 2013.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We are a Progressive Death Metal band, with many elements of death metal, black metal, and jazz. We are fairly melodic, and often move between heavy distorted sections and clean sections. The new album will incorporate clean singing as well. We are influenced by bands like Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Novembre, Behemoth, Vader, Dimmu Borgir, and many more.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Metalheads should buy our albums because we combine many different genres together to create something unique and interesting that many bands do not do. We're not generic, and constantly strive to create original interesting music.

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
So far we have released our first EP "A Death Painted Portrait: which has been doing pretty well in our local area. We also received an album review and got a 9/10. We have the entire EP up on our facebook page, with one song available for download. In addition to the EP, we have 3 demo tracks up of 3 brand new songs that are on our full length that should hopfully be coming out fall of 2013, or early 2014.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We have played several shows, but have not since the summer. We plan to start playing out again as soon as possible though, we're currently talking to a drummer and things are looking pretty good.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
All of us in Eira are talented and dedicated musicians who constantly strive to create unique, interesting and new material that will continue to push the boundaries of progressive metal.

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Plans for the near future are just finishing up this full length, which is almost done, recording it, and then playing out to support it.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/eiramusic. We have one song entitled "Empty” up for download from our EP. We also have a Reverbnation (reverbnation.com/eira). We're working on a way to get our music available online for purchase, but for now if you drop us a message on Facebook we can set up a paypal transaction. If you don't have a facebook you can contact Tom at brotherGerwitz@hotmail.com.
