Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
I started Primalfrost when I was 15 years old. I was playing in bands by this time already but I really wanted to do a studio, one-man project as I was hugely influenced by the music of Quorthon/Bathory (and still am today). Bands come and go and you’re never really sure what direction things will go in when you’re a member of a group, so I wanted to at least have a music project I was in full control of and didn’t have to rely on others for. 3 albums later it’s still going and after all these years I’ve been fortunate to tour all over the world with a number of different bands outside of Primalfrost.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
I would consider Primalfrost “Epic Metal” which blends melodic death metal, symphonic metal, as well as progressive, neoclassical/shred etc. Influences include and aren’t limited to Wintersun, Wolfheart, Insomnium, Stormlord, Shade Empire, Dissection, Bathory, and more.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Anyone who is a fan of melodic metal, death metal, symphonic music, etc. will surely enjoy Primalfrost in some capacity. My biggest selling point for Primalfrost is the combination of melodicism, symphonics, melodies, with the grit, power, and intensity of more extreme metal. Not all bands combine those two sides of metal it’s usually one or the other, so I definitely try to move things in that direction.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
I released the first album “Chapters of Time” in 2012, “Prosperous Visions” in 2014, and “Lost Elegies” at the end of 2021, which was preceded by 3 singles from the album earlier in the year. Everything regarding the newest album has been incredibly positive so far, definitely pushing to get it out there more/have more ears hearing it.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
I just completed a European tour playing for Belphegor, what the future holds with touring/shows I have no idea cause of how covid is making things. Primalfrost had a live lineup years ago, but has since moved to be a studio project as it’s all me doing everything anyway, and I’ve been busy with other things, including touring.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
The fact that I’m a one-man/multi-instrumentalist aside, Primalfrost is not only something new and refreshing in the world of metal, the newest album is a honed, refined, and matured version of the band’s sound that I’m incredibly proud of.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Will be continuously promoting the new album throughout the year. More music videos, content, merch designs, etc. are all on the way. Writing for the next album will commence shortly, it won’t be another 7 years till the next album but it certainly won’t be rushed either.
