Psychoanalysis are Gavin Hood (Vocals/guitar), Finlay 'Fish' West (Lead Guitar), Douglas Harden (Drums) and myself, Chris Ryan (Bass Guitar). We formed in 1984 when Douglas came second place in a High School spelling competition. The word he failed to spell was 'Psychoanalysis' accidently spelling it, 'Phychoanalysis'. Coming second he thought, 'that would make an awesome band name...'

We really formed in 2006 when we all met in High School. Since then, we have released 2 demo cd's, gigged across Scotland, sold a bunch of t-shirts, eaten a record amount of pizza and started work on our debut EP. 

Our style is pretty much Melodic Death Metal, we take influence mainly from the obvious bands like At The Gates, but we also take influence from a lot of

newer bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Arsis, Sylosis, The Absence and Demiricous. A lot of foreign dudes on myspace have said we sound like Dissection, that's kinda cool haha! I think our sound, whilst still being really heavy and technical, is still melodic enough to be accessible to most people who are just generally into metal. At shows and online and stuff we get a mix of metal fans, from like old school death fans to metalcore fans saying they enjoy our music. 

BECAUSE THEY'RE FREE

So far we have only released two demo cd's, both being pretty well recieved, our second demo in 2008 particulary. We've had a lot of good things said about our demos, we even scored something like 90% on a metal archives review haha! At gigs we usually sell out of our demos, and by selling out I mean I hand them out for free as I burn them from my PC about half an hour before sound check. 

Yeah playing live is quite a big part of the band! We've been lucky enough to land gigs opening for bands like Misery Index, The Rotted, Goatwhore, Onslaught, Desecration to name a few. Sylosis was a good one. We get quite a lot of praise for our energetic live performance while remaining pretty tight which is always good. We believe when playing live you should show you're having fun, there's nothing worse than a band that stands there looking scary and serious for the whole set haha!

It's always hard to say what sets your band apart from the rest. At a Psychoanalysis gig, it usually starts with the girls being on one side and the guys on the other, all too scared to mingle and talk to each other. However when we kick into our set with some intense blasts and tremelo melodies, it really brings people together and then the magic really happens. Saying that, we're a very diverse band that brings a fresh sound that will fit almost any bill, heavy enough to fit in with some brutal stuff, yet accessible enough to work with some melodic stuff. Either way, our live show is tight, we have a good time

and win over most crowds we play with. 

Currently, we have a support lined up with Skeletonwtich, Warbringer and Angelus Apatrida for September which will be pretty killer, also we're working on the EP as well as some more gigs in the works. We're always trying to play places we haven't before so if any promoters are reading this, get in touch!!!
