Review:
Perished were a Black Metal band active between 1991 and 2005, with two full-length albums under-belt, Kark from 1998 under Solistitium Records, and Seid from 2003 under Displeased Records, so they've known a fair share of fame in the underground, but probably the bad situation of Extreme Metal in the first decade of the new millenium made less eager to continue. This one here is a re-masetered version of the band's second demo, a 6 tracks effort clocking a bit over half an hour that if released today would have been condsidered a full-length album for sure, especially since this new version comes with a bonus track, an alternative version of the song The Perfect Face of Death, a brutaller and rawer version of it although keeping its original epic feeling intact. Perished built their compositions on a mid-tempo to fast paced classic second wave of Norwegian Black Metal, but added quite a lot of personal flavor to the it on both instrumental and vocal parts. The band uses keyboards to induce an epic, melancholic even feeling to the whole, but there's also some parts of semi-acoustic guitar or melodic leads that support this atmosphere enhancing the otherwise grim, somber backbone of their music. The vocals are mostly Black Metal shrieks, but there are some parts where they become growls and even clean vocals here and there. All in all this is a surprisingly complex release for 1994, I'm surprised it didn't get more attention back then, now it's out on CD and vinyl on The Sinister Flame, check it out!
