Review:
What a way to start the new year! Reviewing this piece of sinister, terribly disturbing Black Metal from the new promised land of this genre feels like the World's closer to the end than it ever was. Well, yes, it's a metaphor, but you get the picture, this debut full-length by Polish duo Wilczya is a fantastic piece of dark, malevolent, cavernous Metal like I haven't heard in a long time. The best thing about it is that the duo doesn't stick to Black Metal exclusively, it also ventures on Funeral Doom, Doom Death, Dark Ambient Noise and even traditional Heavy Metal territories creating a whole that's like a wall of darkness. This might sound too eclectic, but I can assure you the end result is fitting together like a glove, but I also have to mention the grainy, organic, sludgy, muddy production that enhances the atmosphere. At it's core Wilczyca's music is mid-tempo to fast paced Black Metal with compositions that sound both repetitive and creative at the same time, so you'll know what to expect, but they are experimenting and blending in so many "like-minded" elements that purists might consider it not their cup of tea. If you're looking for something really heavy, dark and hateful you should definitely try this out! In the meantime the band has already a new album out.
