Review:
This debut album from UK/Poland based duo Eternal Rot will certainly sell more because of its cover artwork than the music it delivers. I know, it's a harsh comment, but it's the truth. The cover and booklet art, the band logo, band name and even band image are excellent for a slow Death Metal band (I'd rather name it a Slow Death band, like there was a term back in the '90's, than Doom Death) singing mostly about the dead. The music, on the other hand delivers an excellent atmosphere, very putrid, slow and decaying, and that's its best feature, but when it comes to diversity, originality or even to keeping away from boredom, the insturmental part of Eternal Rot fails in my opinion. The vocals are ok, cavernous, inhuman, totally rotting away and complex / expressive enough to enhance the atmosphere, but the drums are way too simple, the guitar work is way too repetitive and there's simply not enough surprising moments to make this a valuable material. I'd buy and I'd recommend this debut album only for the atmospheres it managed to deliver, or simply for the awesome artwork signed by Mark Riddick.
