Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Demorian got together as band first back in early 2001 and was a sort of continue of the old and now buried death/doom band Tragic Serende from the early 90´s, but after only a couple of months band was layd on ice until january 2007 when we finally got together again. Back then we called us Curse and in autumn/late summer same year and at the same time we produced our second demo we also changed it as we felt it was to many bands with that same name. Demorian is me Satanic Tony (43 years) on guitars, voice, bass, keyboard, programming and samples and Alltears (39 years) on guitars, bass, synth, keyboard, samples, screams and programming. The band was first very rooted in older black and death metal, but since some years back we gets inspired by pagan/folk/goth and even some doom.
And since 2007 we working and makes music with the band more than ever. And we also see it as a goal to create dark evil & mystic metal without follow any sort of rules or label. We do it cause we likes what we do.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
From the very first beginning in 2001, our biggest inspirations probably was early Rotting Christ, Samael, Bathory, Sodom, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. And still today those bands are some of our biggest inspirations, but also bands such Pagan Reign, Nokturnal Mortum, Buldok, Doomsword, Kovenant, Count Raven, Marduk, Immortal, Anthropolatri, Apraxia, Zemial, Venom, Slavland, Tiamat, Ancient, Saint Vitus, Autopsy and early Kreator as well to give some names.
Our music I must be very honest to say that it is real hard to describe as we are quite older today and are very rooted in the old school years, but experiments with new music and sounds too. We calls our bands music epic/pagan/black metal with death influences, but it is really hard to describes it. Those topics is something we have to leave to those interested in us.
The final opinion is always gives to the listener of Demorian. Hate us or like us.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because we believe that we are very own and a bit unique in both our sound and musical atmosphere and has a bit of everything in it. As we are a very big mixture of extremer metal forms and even subgenres. There is no sort of standard label that can tell you how to sound or be like and we also believes in full artistic freedom. Let the true spirit guides you.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Back in 2007 we did two demos, both came as very limited and is out of stock today. During 2008 we appeared on some compilations, both in usa, peru and one here in sweden. The year after we contributed on a great & today very rare 3 way split "Unholy Trinity - The Gathering" together with bands from singapore and usa. Later same year was finally our a bit delayed debut album "Back To The Glorious Past" out at azermedoth in mexico and was pressed in 1000 copies. We also released a free download single by the end of year. In year 2010 our free single also came out once again as a tape/ep version with more tracks. In early summer of 2010 we did a split album together with a indonesian black metal band Nosferatu that has reached far over the world now. In same year we also contributed together with over 100 more bands on a unique mp3 compilation sampler in New Zealand. We also released one more free downloadable ep this year and our second album "Vikingpath" came also out in october at Kvlt666 Production and is much more variated and experimental than our first one. Same album came out this early year as a limited tape version down in Costa Rica on a small underground "great" label with new cover art. We have also recently contributing on a brand new split cd "Under The Dark Age" together with the known dark metal band Chaquen from Colombia. And beside of those releases we also have appeared on some compilations in Norway, Usa and Sweden during 2010 also. For this year we have at least a split or two planned and hopefully a mini album or maybe a new full length later. The future will tell and we are for the moment also seeking a label interested in helping us maybe with this. Some words about our music and releases so far is that I think many have hard to accept us as we doesn´t sound as a "normal" or typical and regular black metal or death band. We are both older and have played together in several bands back in the 80s til´ today, so I guess that tells for it self in some way. But many of our music reviewer has often given us pretty good marks though we do not have a real drummer, but we do our best on what we can and have possibility to do. A bit funny thing is that we are much more popular and more spread in countries as South America, Ukraine, Mexico, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia and others.
Our first album has even reached a few copies in Iran, Morroco, Tunisia until now so that is a bit uniqe I guess, haha but damn great. And we have tried and tried to come closer in to the underground metal scene of europe and usa also, but it seems more harder to get accepted some how here we have noticed. But we are on the other hand greatful for all kinds of support we gets anywhere and we plays in our own way and direction and will continue that til´ the end or when we die.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Unfortunaly we are not able to do any live performances as we are just two in the band, but if we ever would get the chance.
Maybe with session musicians some day it could maybe be reality. But we are pleased with the situation we are in anyway as we both has pretty big families so the time for doing a kind of touring or like that is a bit difficult. But who knows? We takes day by day. And you cannot say never.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
If someone likes us and what they hear we are happy and pleased with that. If not we does not care that much either. We plays for our own joy and pleasure first and the idea of creating darker metal as we want. Let it be death, let it be black, pagan or what else it is, we do it just what comes to us naturally. And people can expect totally anti religious songs from us as that thing is something we really hates as it stands for so much evil, corruption, hate and wars in our world and thru the whole lifetime on earth it has been that way. But we are highly interested of old ancient history and cultures too, specially the time before the christian plague conquered over europe and the northern regions. In our opinion there is no god out there, it is mankind, nature, animals, mother earth and universe. There is mighty powers on earth and in universe but nothing you can call God.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We have plans for more coming split releases together with other bands this year. Frosthammer from Canada and Ancient Warlord from the Philippines are some bands that it maybe shows up something together with, hehe. And probably later this year we also will do something more with some colombian black/death metal band like the split cd we did with Chaquen that we heard sells very well around South Ameriacn countries. Also probably a new free release and ideas for a coming new mini album/ep or something like that.
