Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We began as Abysseral Throne in 2011, released a couple of records and then our original line-up shifted. I met our bassist Matt from the music scene in New Brunswick and met our guitarist Dylan when he played in a band called Forward Unto Dawn in Halifax, we instantly had a personal connection so when it was time to leave New Brunswick and enter Halifax ourselves we were fortunate he wanted to join us. Dylan knew Nick from playing in a band together when they were 14, so he introduced us, and everything just clicked immediately.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
I describe us as blackened metal, we take elements from a lot of extreme music and mash it all into what we like and what we think sounds good. The songs are cinematic, I would say cinema is a huge influence on us all. I was really influenced by other bands that incorporate the emotion of black metal in their music such as, Skeletonwitch or Wolves in the Throne Room.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Anyone who enjoys concept albums or an album with a ton of attention to detail I think will really dig our stuff and this record in particular. The music is technical and extreme without losing any of the memorability within the chaos of it all.

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We released a few albums under another name, but the style is so different it’s hard to really reference them to what we are now doing under this new chapter of the band. “The Veil” is our coming-out party and you’re all invited.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Totally! Before COVID we were as active as we could be within our country, we’ve been on tour before and hope to be able to get back to that when everything settles down.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We bring a unique style and approach to extreme music and have a need for writing conceptual music that incorporates themes and sounds to make not just albums, but full listening experiences. We’re also a band with a lot of surprises, you’ll never guess what we’ll do from one song to the next.

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We’re releasing our new album “The Veil” on November 6th, with a planned livestream to follow in the near future. We’re putting the finishing touches on a music video followed by another full length record we’re hoping to record in early 2021.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
All of our stuff is available for purchase on Bandcamp at www.ancientthrones.bandcamp.com. You can purchase a digital copy of our record as well as shirts and we’ll be pressing physical CD copies once the pandemic dies down and shows return! We’re also on all major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. We also have a YouTube channel where we upload playthroughs and videos. Thank you for the questions, check out “The Veil” when it arrives November 6th!
