Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Desecrator began some time during 2008 in Melbourne, Australia after I had been overseas watching bands like Death Angel and Overkill and having semi-drunken 'lightbulb' moments of life clarity - filling me with purpose and vision. Since then we have released one live album called ’Live til Death' which we were lucky enough to work with acclaimed metal producer Harris Johns from Germany, an LP 'Down To Hell' and and played with a host of amazing bands all around the country like Havok, Sepultura, In Flames and Forbidden just to name a few.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Pure un-adulterated Aussie Thrash Metal, a forward sounding backwards movement if you will. Desecrator has often been compared to bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Overkill, Destruction, Sacred Reich. We draw a lot of inspiration from the old-school American Bay Area and German thrash metal bands.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Desecrator scratch an itch that metal-heads can’t currently reach. were the perfect solution for when you’re drunk and can’t decide whether to put on “Ride The Lightning” or “Reign In Blood”. We’re the CD in your collection that your girlfriend will let you listen to - yet we’re the band on your iPod that your mates are stoked to come across… just buy it!
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Out first album “Live Til Death” (2011) had great momentum for us, being a first album tracked completely live onstage it was such an honest representation of what the band is capable of - and the impact we directly have on an audience. At the time reviewers and the public were extremely responsive to the raw honesty of it and the fact that we hadn't tried to impress with the now-too-common studio trickery that bands resort to to try and attract attention.
Our vinyl EP “Down to Hell” (2013) was a perfect follow up to it - it being a more controlled studio environment, but being tracked intentionally for the expanded frequency response of vinyl records, again it's raw production and transparency really let the material shine through over any studio functionality.
Both releases were widely reviewed and blogged internationally which has been an invaluable help for Desecrator as an independent band
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We have toured Australia more times than I can remember! Desecrator have always been a live focussed band - touring relentlessly since 2011. We have some busy and exciting tours coming up - in the next 2 years we hope to tour as many continents as possible and expose the band to as many new fans as possible., whilst releasing whatever new material we can squeeze out.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We have an upcoming European tour in support of HIRAX. We are also touring Russia in early April. Once our hangovers clear, and our injuries heal we will start work on our first studio album in Australia and spend the cold months locked away recording it - with the plan to reappear and SLAUGHTER THE MASSES again by the end of the year.
