Review:
A new studio album after a 10 years wait, From Shadow to Flesh is the followup to Nirnaeth's second album, Splendour of the Abyss from 2009, and features 9 tracks in 40 minutes of playing time. What we get here is a mix of Death and Black Metal with melodic edges drawn by a clever guitars structure and composition, pounding drums, an upfront, metallic sounding bass lines and a vicious, evil vocal part that although only rarely supported by background vocals, doesn't sound boring at all, on the contrary, it manages to be expressive and involve the listener, paint an accurate portrait of what's happening on this disc, or better said of what the band is trying to transmit to the listener. The rhythms are mostly fast paced, but the melodic guitar leads and riffs, the complex and surprising at times songs structures will be something to enjoy here. To be honest I deeply enjoyed this third album of Nirnaeth, I find it catchy, expressive, interesting and thoroughly worked on, a serious piece of Black Death Metal art that should deserve a good support from the community. My only complaint is we don't get more of those killer guitar solos like the one from the last track, Forgotten and Chained.
