Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Let me be brief: Et Moriemur was founded in February 2008 in Prague. We released two CDs, took part in two compilations and played tens of gigs. The actual line-up consists of Zdenek on vocals, bass guitarist Honza (ex-Return To Innocence), drummer Michal (Cruadalach, ex Silent Stream of Godless Elegy and Dissolving of Prodigy) and guitarists Ales (Ghost in the Shell) and Martin (Imagine).
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Existential doom. Doom...because it´s doom :) or rather death-doom with both strong melodies and crushing, often dissonant riffs. Existential because of the lyrics’ themes and the whole concept of our production: we try to convey the idea of the withering of life and of all the suffering and desperation inherent to every existence.
Apart from big doom metal names we were influenced by such different artists as CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, GOETHES ERBEN, DAS ICH, BURZUM, JOY DIVISION, GODFLESH, classical music composers like DVORAK, CRUMB or SCRIABIN, horror soundtracks and ambient stuff.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Do you really need another Metallica´s or Iron Maiden´s re-issue? :) Why don´t you try this new, sincere and passionate band from the heart of Europe and Franz Kafka´s city? If you are into slow atmospheric metal and emotive vocals with lyrics sung in different languages, we could be your cup of tea.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We recorded so far an EP (Lacrimae Rerum, 2009), took part in the Tribute CD to the Czech black metal legend TÖRR and in Doom Metal Front zine compilation Eastern Doomination. In 2011 we released our debut full-length album „Cupio Dissolvi". Our releases were received quite well by critics and fans alike but I guess everybody says that...so just try for yourself :)
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Yes, in average we play a gig a month in the Czech Republic or abroad, sometimes more sometimes less. We like playing live but cannot do it too often being doom metal a highly emotional music and it´s almost impossible to put 100% feelings in every concert if you play every weekend.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We love the music we play and fill our live performances with emotions. We invest most of our time and finances in this, you may well say "second job”. Every year we organize in Prague a doom fest called PATIOR ERGO SUM trying to offer to doom fans the greatest names in this genre as SATURNUS, ESOTERIC, AHAB, HELEVORN, NIGHT OF SUICIDE, SILENT STREAM OF GODLESS ELEGY and so on. Last but not least, we strongly support animal rights being myself vegetarian for 16 years now.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We are working on new material for our next CD and already organizing gigs for 2013. We hope that the successor to "Cupio Dissolvi” will be out at the end of this year or the beginning of the next.
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to some songs at www.myspace.com/etmoriemur, for all the other info we have the address www.etmoriemur.com. You can buy our stuff from online metal music stores such as Solitude store, Old Temple Shop, eBay, from our current label Parat or directly from us. Thank you for this interview and big greetings to your beautiful country!
