Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The Flaying, a Quebec City death metal band will release their second album Angry, Undead on March 22nd 2019 via PRC Music. The band worked with Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) at The Grid Production studio in Montreal. Donaldson engineered, mixed and mastered the album. Additional recording was done at Broil Audio studio (Quebec City) with Raphaël Malenfant. This new offering is definitely their fastest and most brutal to date.
Formed in 2010, the band released the first album in 2014, Unhope,  which had a good response from the Quebec scene and over. In 2016, the band decided to continue as a  4- piece after having some lineup changes, in order to adopt a more brutal approach, adding new grooves, a greater velocity, and creating a widen ambiance as well to keep breakdown possible and progressive parts with counterpoints in a main theme of anger and hate. The vocal partitions keep the fluidity of the Unhope’s signature but the 4-piece opened to a much more brutal and intensive approach.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
It’s brutal and catchy as fuck. A perfect equilibrium of blast beats, grooves, tech, and melodic lines.
We are mainly into death metal pioneers and by the recent wave of technical death metal as well. The main of our influences we could name are Cryptopsy, Archspire, Suffocation, Deicide, The Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, Emperor, Behemoth, Dying Fetus, Carnifex, Cytotoxin, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Inferi, Necrophagist, Nile, Origin, Rings of Saturn, Pestilence, Incantation, Cannibal Corpse, Shadows of Intent, Lorna Shore. Amongst many more...

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
As the PRC label owner declared to our labelmates about Angry, Undead :
“Every single riff on this album is worth 300 bucks!!!”.
The fact is that we spared no efforts in order to create an intense experience to the audience. And we think we succeeded pretty well so far. Any metalhead who likes loud and aggressive grooves will enjoy it! No doubt!

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Unhope and its concept have been appreciated and helped a lot to establish a solid fanbase in the province of Quebec so far. The album is sold out at the moment and we are planning a repress as the demand will certainly continue to grow.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Before and after the lineup changes in 2016, we have been used to play on a monthly basis mostly in Quebec City but outside a well. We visited then at least once all the major cities of our province (Quebec) and some in Ontario as well. We came in time to build a solid reputation as professional level live performers. All the band members have huge life experience and great musicianship so our live performances are always a satisfying and motivating experience to us. This tightness and energy are transmitted to the fans and we think they appreciate it.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
The Flaying has its own blend of brutality and grooves and its own universe. We are proud to offer our stuff to the fans. We always work with high-quality standards in sound, in the writing process, in live performances, etc. Our partnership with the best and most hardworking actors of the scene (Christian Donaldson of Cryptopsy, for example) shows our determination to offer great music to the fans. For this reason, our band for sure is worth at least a try. Just go listen to one song of the old stuff, and one of the new stuff. Go see the lyrics. Listen well. And then judge if it fits you or not.

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
The official release of “Angry, Undead” is the 22nd of March 2019. The 12th of April will be the official concert in Quebec City. The confirmed concert dates for the following weeks are :
