Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Revolted Masses were formed in 2008 in Athens, Greece. Our current lineup comprises of George Stefanis on vocals and bass, Vaggelis Theodorakis and Dimitris Kleftogiannis on guitars and George Anamouroglou on drums.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Our style is predominantly on a death/thrash metal vein, with oriental elements embedded in. Riff-driven songs, with mostly brutal vocals, but keeping it diverse, with various highs and lows in our dynamics. The lyrics revolve around various socio political subjects, subjects that either we encounter every day, or we are generally passionate about. Our influences come from many aspects of the artistic world, even non-musical artists. But some metal bands that influenced us are Gojira, Sylosis, Lamb of God, Rage Against the Machine, At the Gates, and many more.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
It's not our main concern if people buy our music, the thing that we are mostly concerned about is that people listen to and enjoy our music and lyrics. We are spending a lot of time and thought on our music, in spite of many negative circumstances, and we are glad when it's appreciated by people. If they like our music and want to support our effort by buying an album or some merch, it's great, but even leaving a positive comment on our YouTube videos makes us glad.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
After 2 demo releases ("Revolted Masses", 2009 and "Seeds of Revolt", 2010), in 2013 we released our first full length album, "Us or Them". The album enjoyed appreciation with positive reviews throughout the world, while it was followed by music videos and many live performances. Our second release, "Age of Descent" was released in 2015 all over Europe, by Inverse Records (Finland). Now, "Rise" is the latest full-length album, released on June 26th of 2020. It is accompanied by the album's single, "Drown in Apathy", also available as a music video. "Rise" consists of 10 songs and it is available in both digital and physical form.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We have performed in many live shows, with the "Break the Chains" tour being a highlight, in which we toured various cities in Greece, promoting our "Us or Them" album, together with Chronosphere and Vermillion Days. Recently, with the Covid-19 outbreak, live shows have become rare to nonexistent, so we are eagerly waiting for things to get better, because it's been a long time since we've been on stage. Can't wait to play the new songs off of "Rise" live as well, and take in the people's reaction.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We'd like to believe that we have something to say, something that's worth to be shown to the world. We have made a lot of sacrifices for our music, money-wise (as we're very much a DIY band, out of necessity), time-wise (working normal jobs, as well as being in the band) and trying to create something that's original, and still to be proud of it. In these circumstances, just staying together as a band after so many years is a herculean task, let alone being creative. We love what we do, playing music, it's something that we're passionate about, and it makes us very happy. In these tough times we live in, and no matter how grim the situations may seem, we believe in something better, both in the music industry and society in general.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Now, with the Covid-19 situation, things are looking more and more difficult for artists. As live shows are going to be postponed for a while, we're planning to release some new videos on our YouTube channel (band playthroughs, etc.), so we'll still be making content for the near future, overcoming adversities as they come.
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our latest album "Rise" is available on all streaming platforms (Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, etc.), as well as YouTube, and you can order a physical copy, or merch on our Bandcamp page.
