Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Cemeterius was formed by guitarist Zadrunth and ex-drummer Awqaq in 2016. The purpose was to find an original take on creating black metal through the inspiration of merging Byzantine music with Romanian Folklore. A complete recording line-up was ready in 2017. The members of Cemeterius are no beginners in music. All have separately had 15-20 years ofexperience from different projects in different genres.
Cemeterius is the main band, the main priority, for every member involved. The goal for the band is to be active, for the music to reach all corners of the world, to record and release at a steady pace, to play gigs and tours as much as possible.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
The main premises for the creation in Cemeterius is Byzantine music mixed with Romanian Folklore in a close relation to traditional black metal. The band plays with one guitarist that takes care of both rhythm and lead guitars. This makes for a cleaner end result, the bass guitar also becomes more prominent and dynamic. The idea is to keep an open soundscape where the bass and guitar share the space of the lead role.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
It's a fresh take on black metal. The music delivers something else compared to many other generic black metal releases. Music-wise it has an unusual source of inspiration in the making that delivers an unorthodox end result.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
The first EP, Kaúr's V'Rei, was recorded live November 11, 2017. March 15, 2018 saw its physical CD-release, as well as the digital version through bandcamp.
No promotion has been done for the release, but the reactions have mainly been positive.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We play live whenever possible, we all enjoy it. We played a few gigs in Stockholm during 2017 and we're looking to play more. The focus for 2018 has been to create new material for an upcoming full-length recording.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
The band delivers something else beside the expected for this genre. There's a different take when it comes to the music, there's also a unique lyrical theme involved. All of this will become more apparent in the next Cemeterius release.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
There's a lot more work ahead. The plan is to finish the new tracks before the recording of the new album, which should begin during the early months of 2019. We're also looking to play gigs wherever we can.
