Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Crushing Axes is a one-man-band, I record all the instruments and I use programmed drums. Except for the last album “Undead Warrior”, I hired sessions musicians for this album, Gledson Gonçalves (ex-Primal Rage) drums, Fernando Molinari(No-Metric) bass.
When I started this project I wanted a real band, gigs and etc…unfortunately that was not possible, I tried several times but without success, I finally decided to release the album as a one-man-band, the first album was actually a pre-production.
I’ve been recording since 2008, releasing at least an album per year.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Mainly Death Metal/Experimental, but Thrash Metal is a huge influence, there is too many to list, but Slayer, Death, Obituary and Sodom. Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, Megadeth. Darkthrone, Burzum, Dark Funneral. As a guitarist my influences are Randy Rhoads, Dave Murray, Angus Young, Kerry King, Jeff Haneman, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Nuno Mindelis, Yamandu Costa.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Crushing Axes is a non-profit project, all albums are available for download, perhaps in the future I’ll release some physical material, but only a alternative to the virtual release. I truly believe internet is the best way to know and share bands and knowledge, artists can still receive money for gigs. It’s harder for record companies to rule the world now, mainstream is something from the past. Like electricity or water music finds its way to dump the trash where it belongs.
If you truly love what you do, you don’t do it just for money. It may be nice to earn a few bucks, but that was the main reason a lot of idiots were destroying music.
It’s time for people stop to complain and find something useful to do, just the fact that people are still fighting against piracy proves that they are living in a very distant past.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
2008 – Bloodfield in Hell
2009 – Viking Winter
2010 – Legends
2010 – Member of The Unholy Society
2011 – Ascension of Ules
2012 – Black Book
2012 – Lost Treasures
2013 – Frozen Soul
2013 – Evoking The Power of Chaos
2014 – Undead Warrior
I didn’t actually believe someone except me would like the idea, I was really surprised to find some people that can really understand what I am doing, both media and public really surprised me, I totally underestimated especially the media.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Unfortunately no, but it’s something I’m really think about all the time, perhaps in the future, but for now it’s not possible.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
I used to play live until 2008, and I’ve been playing in festivals and gigs since 98/99, it’s really nice to see some new bands popping out, I can actually see a lot of talents, and a lot of good stuff, unfortunately like anything in modern society those bands don’t last more than a few moments. I think that’s why I started this project, it’s really hard to find bands with more than 10 years releasing material very often.
I also believe my songs are very different from anything I know. There are a lot of copies, but barely no one is making something new.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
I released an album November 2, the next album is already recorded and ready to go, except for artwork, but I already talked to Rafael Tavares, he made the cover art for Undead Warrior, and he’s an excellent artist, I’ll definitely work with him again.
I’ll make my best to keep the flame alive, I usually don’t like to make a lot of plans for Crushing Axes, since I really like to enjoy the moment and be as free as possible to compose.
