Review:
This is the debut album from Finnish Black Metal duo Aethyrick, released at the end of 2018, but in the meantime they have already released their second studio album which proves they are quite serious about this; 2 albums in a bit over a year is not too much if we keep in mind the band is a duo and doesn't perform live, so if they want to keep eyes pointed on them they have to work double as hard on discographic level. Talking about this debut album, we're dealing with the new type of Black Metal that is so appreciated nowadays, highly atmospheric, emotional, mesmerizing on mid-tempo to fast paced rhythms, with a layer of keyboards to enhance the atmosphere even more, and fronted by a hoarse vocalist that keeps things quite comprehensive. There are plenty of melancholic parts to break the Black Metal wall of sound monotony, but what this album lacks is the surprise effect. Apart for the complex, skillful instrumental work, the album flow is quite predictable. The bass lines are really upfront, placing a serious mark on the overall sound, I thought I should mention that. A good album, definitely a good debut for the band, and it seems the followup is in the same vein (I hope with more surprises though), check it out if you like your Black Metal melodic and atmospheric to the bone.
