Ex-frontman of Gothic Metal band My Sixth Shadow, Dave Shadow started This Void Inside as a one man band in 2003 and only in 2008 transformed it into a band with full line-up and released their debut album in this formula. Not sure what happened with the band between 2008 and 2016, but in 2016 they started working on this new album and two years later signed a deal with Agoge Records together with whom they released this second studio material, a 14 tracks effort clocking almost an hour of Gothic Rock combined with plenty of other styles from Love Metal to Power Metal and Hard Rock, even some Electro and Pop Rock influences being audible at times. Catchy, steady flowing, melodic to the bone, varied and quite energetic this album sounds really good, with many of the 14 tracks being suitable anytime for being hits; from my point of view if this album would have been released when Him were in their prime, This Void Inside would have been stars as well, that's how memorable their music is, I'm sure fans of Gothic Metal, Gothic Rock and Love Metal will deeply enjoy this album, it has energetic tracks, slower, more depressive songs, too, plus some that are just hit-material all the way; I'm only sorry the booklet doesn't have the lyrics printed because although the vocals are perfectly comprehensive, I think having the lyrics printed would have created a stronger bond with the listeners.
