Review:
Curious decision to release this as an EP, but that doesn't mean I don't understand it, any band needs as much exposure as possible and every opportunity is a good opportunity. Curious why? Because it is made of only 1 new track + an intro and an outro, and as bonus 3 tracks recorded live, so basically the band's fans get only 1 new track but released in professional conditions: digipak CD with 4 pages booklet that unfolds into a mini-poster with the band, plus a fair sized sticker with the cover artwork (unfortunately the cover art and booklet are so dark you can barely understand what's there), and it seems the material was released on cassette format as well. That says it all about how well regarded is this band in certain circles. Getting to the actual music on this release I can say Gravered plays some slow to mid-tempo sinister, massive sounding and oppressive as hell Death Metal without compromises, one of the darker Death Metal releases I've heard lately. I also love the intro and outro that are made on piano only, they sound so spooky, melancholic and spooky at the same time, a perfect cocoon for this song of the underworld. The three live tracks are introduced by a Gregorian chant seconded by demonic screams and whispers and it sounds so impressive I can't even describe it. The sound of these live tracks is so good one can easily say they are studio recorded. Gravered's music remains of the old Swedish Death Metal, but it's ten times darker and heavier, I have deeply enjoyed this EP and now I can't wait for their upcoming manifestation to drop. One band to definitely keep an eye (or both!) on.
