Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
At the beginning, we were six friends that got together to make music, because that is one of the most important thing in our lives. We came from different bands, but some of us have known each other for a while. Pieter-Jan, Michael and Matthias came from the band “The Breathing Reflex” and I came from the bands “Poseydon” and “Everglow” but I also knew Michael from the time we played together in “Dead, but not yet buried”.
Our first single came out on the 14th may of 2018, but the preparations took like 1,5 years to 2 years because we really wanted to be prepared for shows, an EP and music videos.
For now, we still are six friends, but only five of us continue to make music, because Lendert decided to follow his ultimate dream, namely, traveling around the world. So, we decided to continue with the five of us.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
I think that we combine some different styles. In my eyes, the most present styles are metalcore, thrash metal and death metal. There are a lot of bands that influence our music, but it is hard to list bands that influenced us because there is a wide variety in the styles of music that the members of Beyond Our Sight listen to. Michael likes nu-metal and hardcore, Fréderik & Matthias mostly like metalcore, Pieter-Jan likes progressive bands and metalcore, and I also really like metalcore but my personal favorite styles are thrash metal and death metal.
But to name a few bands, I would say that As I lay Dying, Machine head, Slipknot, Bullet for my valentine, Killswitch engage, Exodus, Behemoth & Metallica have influenced us. This in various ways, from songwriting to playing style.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
I would say because we do everything we can to make music that we love so it could help people who go through tough times. But that is not the only reason. We also make music so that we and other people can just enjoy ourselves because of the music.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We have already released a single on the 14th of May 2018 and an EP on the 23rd of March 2019. We really got good reactions from the public and the media. We’ve noticed a lot of people are listening to our music which gives us a lot of energy to keep going for it!
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We play live, we want to play as much shows as possible because we just love the energy that is released during live shows. It is not that easy to find live shows but we work hard to find shows where we can play. But we cannot complain, we can play a show here and there and a lot of people show up on our gigs. The last show we played was our farewell show for Lendert and it was just wild. A lot of people showed up and there were mosh pits and crowd surfers. These are the shows we really love to do.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
I think the most important reason is the fact that we work really hard on our music and everything that has to do with the organizing part of a band combined with our daily jobs and lives. Even though someone of the band is having a busy period in his live, we push through together and continue because we love music and making music. We will always put our love & energy in Beyond Our Sight!
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
In a few weeks, we’ll hit the studio for a new single so you can expect something new from us in the few months. We are also writing songs for a full album that we want to release as soon as possible. And we also want to play as many shows as possible of course!
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to our music on Bandcamp, Spotify, Youtube, Itunes and last but not least, you can buy our hard disc EP and our shirt! Just send us a message on Facebook and we will get you some merch or an EP!
