Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Northern Crown was founded back in January 2013. The original lineup was a bit different..it was a 3 piece that played jammy stoner/sludge with blackened vocals. It was cool but didn’t really work out. As I was working on this release, the style started to morph more into what you hear now.
Our singer, Frank, was introduced to us through a mutual friend. Apart from vocals, he played some guitar on the record, co-produced and generally became my partner in what was originally a solo project of sorts.
Frank brought in Josh (who’s also in a cool band in Nashville named Dark Hound) , who played drums on the record.
My friends Randy and Sally, who are the guitarists in Orbweaver contributed bass and lead, respectively. Another mutual friend Roberto (also in Shadow Society) laid down keys.
I (Zachary) played all the rhythm guitars, did some bass, a couple solos and keys and mixed the record.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
I think we’re a mix of traditional Heavy Metal and classic Doom Metal. I’m chiefly influenced by Black Sabbath, Dio, Candlemass and My Dying Bride. I’m also a HUGE 70s rock guy, so I think that creeps into the music as well.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because we’re awesome?
Okay, seriously, we’re doing a really cool style of metal that isn’t heavily represented these days. If you’re into classic doom, classic metal, etc, you’re going to dig us. We have cool riffs, an amazing vocalist and a great atmosphere.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We’re still early in the release cycle for this record, but thus far the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
The old lineup played a couple gigs. Right now, though, geographic realities are keeping us from playing live, but we’ll get it figured out.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We’re a pack of talented and dedicated musicans repping a style of metal that’s gaining a resurgence in popularity. Frank and I, who are leading the charge, are passionate and work our asses off. I don’t do anything half-assed.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Right now promoting the EP is priority #1. I’m working on some new riffs as well. Not sure when shows are happening, but that’s on the horizon as well.
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our debut EP, “In the Hands of the Betrayer” is out on 2014/10/24 and is available for preorder here: http://music.northerncrownband.com/
Presently only the title track is available to stream, but we will be premiering the rest of the album as we lead up to the release.
Thanks for the time!
