Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Joschka: "The Band had been founded by John and me in the late 90ies. It was completed with Sven and Thomas in 2000 and named Tyrael. Thomas left Tyrael in 2002, but Holger replaced him in the very same year. In the years that followed, the debut's tracks took roots in the minds of the band."
Sven: "John got lost in his inner world in 2006. During the long quest for a worthy successor, Fabian was introduced to the guitar parts, so that Joschka was able to concentrate on lending his shrieking and rumbling voice to the band's sound. Eventually, in 2008, we met Mario and he became our drummer."
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Mario: "Musically bands like Kataklysm or Naglfar influenced us most. Our music has a lot of melodic parts but also a lot of fast riffs. We also have riffs which are not that typical of black and death metal, as several magazines noted. Some say, Tyrael plays neither black nor death metal, so it seemed necessary to create a new genre Green Metal. We choose that name because nature plays a large role in our band. But even more so because the structure of every Tyrael song is shaped over months until it's full-grown, like a plant."
Sven: "I think the biggest influences to 'Der Wald ist mein Zuhause' were Alchera, Eisregen (Krebskolonie), Naglfar (Vittra & Diabolical), Tristania (1997-1999), Riger (1998-1999), Sorhin, Adorned Brood (Asgard) and Summoning. But there is a large number of influences, so it's hard to fix one to our style. Many reviews say that Tyrael hasn't decided on a style, yet. So Green Metal presents an appellation to stories music tells, not affixed on the lyrics. To me, bands who are bound to a specific genre (like typical satanic black metal) risk becoming a bore. Our principle of Green Metal assures our songs being fresh for the listener."
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Sven: "If you like diversified rough metal, with Rumbling growls and skin flaying shrieks, relentlessly pushing and dashing drums, great bass-lines and guitars that lack neither brutality nor melody, don't hesitate to buy 'Der Wald ist mein Zuhause'. To get a feeling of what we are like playing live, check out 'Raw Live Mementos'."
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Sven: "After John left the band in 2006, we decided to publish our live demo 'Raw Live Mementos' to assure our songs wouldn't get lost. Actually, the live demo wasn't reviewed, yet. When Tyrael was joined by Fabian and Mario, we wanted to gain experience in studio recording and released our debut album 'Der Wald ist mein Zuhause'.
We reviewed some good reviews and some bad ones, too. I think there is nothing dramatic about some bad reviews. Some people appreciate our work and some not. Those who do, especially like the sound of Mario's drums, Joschka's voice and our diversified song structure."
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Joschka: "We've played a lot of gigs around Cologne and Bonn so far. But we would also like to try and play at more distant locations. Our next show will be at 16. Sept. 2011 at Leviathan's CD release party in Siegburg near Bonn."
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Holger: "I guess what can be said is that we're all very distinct and unique guys and I think that figures in our music as well. It is quite individual, which is something you should always take interest in when listening to music. "
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Holger: "We try to promote 'Der Wald ist mein Zuhause' as much as we can through our internet presence, but also by playing live. We gathered some new material already, but not enough to be talking about another album soon. But that will definitely be something we will pursue as well."
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Sven: "You can listen to our music at www.Tyrael.net. In europe "Der Wald ist mein Zuhause" is available at mail-orders in almost every country. If you check our homepage or www.myspace.com/tyraelmetal, you'll find a list of them. But you can use our own worldwide onlineshop http://tyrael.bigcartel.com, too."
