Review:
I always start these reviews with the note that we're not a zine usually covering this genre, so none of us are expert in it, hence the "reviews" are basically descriptions, rather than critics. Mask of Prospero are a Greek quintet founded back in 2014 and The Observatory is their debut album, a 9 tracks effort clocking around 35 minutes of playing time. Brewing an Atmospheric Modern Metal heavily inspired by Metalcore, Deathcore and Djent, the band did a good job balancing between melody, energy, heaviness and the obvious breakdown moments without overusing anything, so in the end I guess this material could be on the liking of any Metal fan. The production is top-notch, there's plenty of diversity and change in rhythms, pace or atmospheres, and even if this is their debut album it doesn't feel like it, it sounds so mature that I'm sure it's a solid stepping stone for the band's career. I've spined it more than 5 times now and although I'm not a fan of said genre I have really enjoyed this album. If you're into Atmospheric Metal and you think you can handle some serious modern sounds and techniques, give this album a listen, you might have a nice surprise.
