Review:
To be honest I'm getting more and more reticent to the Stoner, Sludge and Doom scenes nowadays because I can see more and more bands popping out from everywhere all the time which means it's a fashion at least in the underground, and me and fashion don't go well together, never did. But that's not necessarily the cause, the cause is most bands sound one like the other, with very few differences, and if you're a profane of the genre like I am, it tends to get annoying. With Dutch band Tarre I had the same reluctance, especially after the first track on this debut album of theirs, a 12 and a half minutes long song that I quite frankly would have divided in three (it sounds like three tracks too), but luckily it was another of those albums that grows on your as time goes by and you start discovering it. I have enjoyed the heaviness of the guitar riffs and their balance between Doom, Sludge and even Stoner, the versatility of the bass and drums, and the old-school vibe of the production, but the vocals are not something I go for (I like vocals that are either melodic, or aggressive / brutal, but these are the blunt, dissonant type), and the rhythm breaks and changes are again something I find unnatural, taking away all the fun. I'd say Tarre have produced an album fanatics of the genre will be able to understand better than the others, a quite targeted/niched material, not for the masses.
