Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Chosen has been around now since 2005. In the beginning, we did the usually thing of recording some demos, playing gigs and going through a few line-up changes, as most bands often experience. Currently, the band is comprised of just two members: David McCann (drums/percussion) and Paul Shields (vocals, guitars and bass).
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We describe our style of music as a fusion of extreme metal elements with crushing heaviness. We take influence from bands such as Meshuggah, Death, Nevermore, Gojira, and Cynic.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
If they want to hear something that’s a little different, a bit more ‘progressive’, then then should give our music a try. It won’t cost them anything either, as we’re giving our music away for free download.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
To date, we’ve released about five EPs and, after a long hiatus, are currently about to release our debut album. Thus far, our music has been well-received by the public and media alike.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Normally, we would play live but with it just being the two of us now, it has meant that we have a lot of work to do in order to represent our music in a live setting.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
That Chosen is a two-piece Irish metal band; that we once relocated from Ireland to Canada for a year; that we put on a unique Death tribute gig, playing the entire Symbolic album, and finally, that our debut album ‘Resolution’ is something that a lot of people are beginning to talk about to recognise as being something worth listening to in this age of digital abundance.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
To get our music in the hands of as many people as possible.
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our album will be available for free download on the 30th March 2013 from our website: www.chosen.ie
