Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Before Lonescar, Michael (guitar) and I were in Thorns of the Shadow with some hometown buddies in 2009. In 2013, we formed Lonescar and began writing some more songs. Throughout 2013 - 2015, we were dialing in our sound and searching for committed members, all while performing nonstop throughout Texas. By the time Brian and Jc found their way into the fold, we had a strong presence in our scene and things fell into place from there. Our first two EPs essentially served as platforms for us to keep alive during some of the slower parts of the last ten years, which isn't to say that they were made "just for survival," but rather that our LP, Lust for the End, is a much more comprehensive reflection of us as a band.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Lonescar tends to fall into the groove and thrash metal genres, and rightfully so I'd say. As far as extreme genres go, everyone in the band has a healthy foundation of groove and thrash, so it's inevitable that our sound reflect some aspects of that. Of course, we don't just want to do what has already been done, so we try to push it; I like to describe this as Spicy Metal, since we're all a buncha hispanic metalheads lol. I speak for myself when I say I was influenced by Lamb of God, Megadeth, Gojira, and bands in that same vein, but I know Michael would probably list KISS, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, etc. for his influences; we're all pretty multifaceted in that regard.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
RIFFS! We here in Lonescar love us a good groove, and I feel that our latest album definitely delivers that. On top of groove, we have great guitar solos in this album that are definitely worth a listen. I really have to hand it to Michael; the songwriting on this album is tasteful. There's not a ton of tempo changes à la Tech Death, but it's undeniably enjoyable to blast on 11 with some beer, buds and BBQ. To finish it off, this album contains the masterful drumming of Jc Hernandez. Jam out to any song and you'll feel his power emanating from the track!
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We have only released two EP's so far - Bloodluck in 2015 and More Chingon Than Before in 2017. The first was recorded and produced by Charlie Vela at Sound of Rain Studios, and though it didn't get massive PR, it was well-received locally and put us in a good position to start performing a lot more. By the time we were ready to record our second offering, we had managed to perform alongside bands like Sepultura, Darkest Hour, Havok, and Whitechapel, so I'd say the follow up was anticipated. Joshua Lopez (Widowmaker Studios) produced and recorded our second EP, which was another hard hitter with us trying some different things. Again, the songs had a positive reaction from fans and reviewers, but with a common complaint: "We want more music!!" So we started writing more and that landed us here with Lust for the End, our latest album and first LP.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We were a relentless live band early on and still perform, but not very much as of lately. I think we only performed live once in 2019 actually. We spent the tail end of 2018 and majority of 2019 writing and recording this album, making sure it was the priority. Now that the album is out though, we're looking to get out and hit some of the larger markets in Texas and neighboring states. I would anticipate more shows this year compared to last for sure.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Labels can fuck right off. Zines and promoters, feel free to reach out if you want to give a platform to a small band of Latinx artists. If you don't find that interesting already, then by all means, let's write another article about what Corey Taylor thinks about rabbits or some shit.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
The plan has and always will be to make music and share it with anyone who will listen. So far, that remains unchanged. Stay tuned for more!
